The 2019 edition of the Szeged Aviation Days & Air Parade took place on September 13, 14 and 15, 2019. We were present at the event only on the 14th, which was the day when most flights took place. They started in the morning at 09:00 and continued throughout the day until dusk. During this year’s edition, approximately 15,000 – 20,000 people participated during all three days.

On Saturday, about 35-40 different types of aircraft could be seen, plus 20 hot air balloons. As had been accustomed in previous years, there was an entrance and parking fee and the participants could also pay for a short flight with the Liusinov Li-2, Antonov An-2, Yak-52 and the Mil Mi-2 helicopter. As far as the aeronautical presence was concerned, we had a fair share of local aircraft, as well as guests from abroad. These included the Red Bulls, who participated with a Lockheed P-38 Lighting, a Chance Vougt F4U-4 Corsair, a North American B-25J Mitchell and a North American T-28 Trojan. There were also 3 An-2 planes (Hungary, Poland, Romania), the Zlin Z-37 Cmelak plane (Hungary), Liusinov Li-2 (Hungary), helicopters from the Hungarian Ministry of Interior, as well as various private aircraft operators and gliders.

As aerial acrobatics pilots we were offered a very interesting show by the Hungarian pilot Gyula Vari with his Yak-52, Dr. Martin Graf (Germany) with Extra 300 and the Swedish glider pilot, Johan Gustafson, with the glider SZD-59 ACRO. The Hungarian Air Force participated with 3 Mil Mi-17 helicopters arriving from Szolnok Air Base. The L-29 Delfin plane of the Komo Sky Team – Hungary was also present. The Soko G-2 Galeb from the Belgrade Air-club should also have participated in this category. For reasons we do not know, it was no longer present at Szeged Aviation Days & Air Parade 2019.

The day ended with the flight of hot air balloons and fireworks. A lot of flying with many types of aircraft; so it is best to have a lot of memory cards for the camera and be prepared for a full day. Since 2020 edition the name of the airshow was changed from Szeged Aviation Days & Air Parade in to Szeged International Airshow – SZIA. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to Sars-Cov 2 Pandemic. But let’s see what the images from the Szegedi Repülőnapok & Légiparádé 2019 look like.
